A Multi-Year Creative Partnership with flok

flok (formerly National PKU News) is a non-profit organization with a 30-year legacy dedicated to rallying the inherited metabolic disorder community to continuously improve care and accelerate scientific progress. In early 2023, they approached us during a pivotal moment in their organizational history as they undertook a comprehensive strategic shift. This transformation included rebranding from National PKU News to flok, expanding their focus from exclusively PKU to include other hyper-rare metabolic disorders, and transitioning their primary platform from a traditional website to a mobile app.

Initially, they sought a creative partner to design a brochure website to support their upcoming app launch. However, as our partnership developed, it became clear that their needs extended far beyond this initial scope.

Our Approach

PHASE 1

Initial Engagement

What began as a contained web design project quickly evolved into a comprehensive partnership. As flok's needs expanded and timelines shifted, we pivoted to a retainer model, positioning ourselves as their fractional creative partner providing direction, brand management, and creative development.

PHASE 2

Expanded Creative Support

Building on our successful collaboration, we continued serving as flok's fractional marketing design team throughout 2024. Our services expanded across digital and print mediums, focusing on community events, merchandising, fundraising initiatives, and digital content while demonstrating our adaptability to their evolving needs.

PHASE 3

Strategic Evolution

In our third year of collaboration, we evolved to a more strategic role, functioning as the crucial link between flok's organizational goals and creative execution. We introduced a dedicated designer while maintaining seamless continuity through clear creative direction. As the creative project manager, we now serve as the essential connection point—translating flok's requirements into aligned creative work while establishing standardized workflows and guidelines to ensure brand consistency.
